Brazil’s Transport Ministry expects to complete the Transnordestina railway section linking the network to Pecém Port by the end of 2026. The government also reported progress on restoring the rail connection to Suape Port after the Pernambuco stretch was removed from the previous concession. According to Transport Minister George Santoro, engineering studies have been completed and the project has been tendered, with construction awaiting regulatory clearances. The National Logistics Plan is also set to include a rail corridor connecting the North-South Railway to Transnordestina through Salgueiro, Pernambuco. The projects are expected to strengthen cargo flows across the Northeast, improve port access and expand rail transport capacity for agricultural and industrial shipments.
