BRAZIL AGRIBUSINESS EXPORTS HIT US$16 BILLION, ACCOUNT FOR OVER HALF OF NATIONAL SHIPMENTS

Brazil’s agribusiness exports reached US$16 billion in May 2026, up 8.2% year on year and representing 50.2% of the country’s total exports. Year to date, shipments totaled US$70.55 billion, up 4.6%, while imports fell 3.4% to US$8.25 billion, lifting the sector’s trade surplus to US$62.3 billion. Soybean exports led the portfolio at US$6.31 billion, rising 14.6% from a year earlier, while fresh beef shipments climbed 50.2% to US$1.7 billion. Mato Grosso remained the top exporting state with US$3.14 billion in exports. China retained its position as the largest buyer, importing US$6.28 billion in Brazilian agricultural products. U.S. tariffs continue to weigh on forestry products, coffee and orange juice exports despite the sector’s strong overall performance.
