The Port of Natal’s dredging project has reached 24.6% completion, with approximately 444,000 cubic meters of sediment removed from the access channel, out of a planned total of 1.8 million cubic meters. Started on April 24, the first phase remains on schedule for completion by late October. The project will increase operational draft to 12.5 meters, allowing larger vessels to call at the terminal, expanding cargo handling capacity and improving navigational safety. Budgeted at roughly BRL 60 million under Brazil’s Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), the dredging is part of a broader port modernization effort. A second phase covering the turning basin remains pending environmental licensing approvals before a construction schedule can be defined.
