The Paraná-Tietê waterway continues to strengthen its role in Brazil’s freight network, linking key agricultural regions in the Center-West to the Port of Santos through 2,400 km of navigable waterways. The corridor serves 286 municipalities across five states and integrates 12 port terminals, supporting shipments of soybeans, corn, sugar, fuels and iron ore. A major infrastructure upgrade is underway at the Nova Avanhandava channel, where BRL 293.8 million is being invested to deepen a 16 km stretch by 3.5 meters. Scheduled for completion in August, the project is expected to accommodate larger barge convoys, improve year-round navigation and increase cargo throughput. The investment forms part of Brazil’s broader strategy to expand inland navigation and strengthen multimodal logistics corridors.
