NIGERIA JOINS BRICS, BOOSTS ECONOMIC RELATIONS WITH BRAZIL

Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy and most populous country, has joined BRICS, which now includes nine partner countries in addition to its five full members. The Foreign Ministry announced the accession on January 17. It strengthens collaboration from the Global South and promotes economic integration. Nigeria has one of the world’s 30 largest GDPs and has been a member of OPEC since the 1970s. The country is known for its natural richness, such as oil and gas, as well as historical and cultural ties with Brazil. Under the Brazilian chairmanship of BRICS, the country aims to collaborate on energy and support global governance reforms, as well as boost market opportunities and member integration.
