ITAJAÍ PORT ADVANCES CHANNEL CONCESSION AUCTION PLANS

Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports has submitted the final concession package for Itajaí Port’s access channel to regulator Antaq, clearing the project for a tender expected in the second half of 2026. The 25 year concession calls for R$350 million in investments covering channel upgrades, dredging and rock removal works. Initial interventions will allow New Panamax vessels of up to 366 meters to operate by the third year of the contract. A second phase will deepen the draft to 16 meters, enabling calls by 400 meter vessels. The project also includes deployment of a Vessel Traffic Service system and removal of navigational obstacles. Cargo throughput at Itajaí rose 40% year on year in the first four months of 2026.
