CORN ETHANOL EXPANDS IN BRAZIL AND CHANGES THE DYNAMICS OF THE BIOFUELS MARKET

According to Martinho Seiiti Ono, CEO of SCA Brasil, the corn ethanol sector is experiencing a period of strong expansion in Brazil, supported by economic and structural advantages. “The production cost of corn ethanol is between 20% and 30% lower than that of sugarcane ethanol, which has encouraged the emergence of many new plants in the Central-West region,” he says. Among the factors driving this growth are the large availability of corn in the region, the established DDG (Distillers Dried Grains) market for animal feed, access to low-cost biomass, and tax incentives granted by states to attract industrial investments. Currently, corn ethanol already accounts for nearly 30% of all ethanol produced in Brazil, directly contributing to reducing the seasonality of supply in the domestic market.
