CARGO SURGE: PORT OF SANTOS HITS 16M TONNES IN MARCH, YEAR-TO-DATE GROWTH AT 15.9%

In March, the Port of Santos achieved a record throughput of 16.0 million tonnes, up by 5.0% from last year, and the first quarter saw a remarkable 15.9% increase, totaling 42.3 million tons. Sugar shipments surged by 95.6% in March and 97.8% year-to-date, while containerized cargo grew by 21.6% and 20.6%, respectively. Meat, coffee beans, and soybean meal also showed strong performance. Notably, diesel and gas oil saw staggering growth. President Anderson Pomini anticipates significant shipments of sugar, soybeans, and corn by year-end, highlighting infrastructure expansions. Ship dockings grew by 7.7%, and Santos’ share in Brazil’s trade rose to 29.3%, with China featuring prominently.
