BRAZIL ACHIEVES RECORD HIGH SURPLUS OF $98.8 BILLION IN 2023

Brazil achieved a record surplus of $98.8 billion in 2023, the highest in the historical series since 1989. Released by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC), the positive balance marked a 60.6% increase from 2022’s $61.5 billion surplus. Exports reached $339.7 billion, a 1.7% rise, with the agribusiness sector contributing 24% ($81.5 billion) and the extractive industry 23.2% ($78.8 billion). Imports contracted by 11.7%, totaling $240.8 billion, compared to $272.6 billion in 2022. The surplus reflects Brazil exporting more than importing, showcasing a robust trade performance in 2023.
