NEW IRON ORE TERMINAL AT ITAGUAÍ TO BE AUCTIONED OUT IN AUGUST, SAYS ANTAQ

The National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) plans to auction the ITG02 area, a new iron ore terminal in the Port of Itaguaí, in August 2024. The auction, part of a broader initiative to auction 35 port terminals by 2026 with investments totaling R$8 billion, was approved in September 2023. Covering 348,937m², the ITG02 terminal will focus on bulk minerals, particularly iron, expecting a throughput of nearly 400 million tons during the contract period. The estimated investment is approximately R$2.7 billion. Despite opposition from Itaguaí’s Mayor Rubem Vieira, citing environmental concerns, the federal government aims to proceed with the auction.
