AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS DRIVE A 41.9% INCREASE IN MARITIME TRADE BALANCE IN 2023

In 2023, maritime exports in Brazil surged by 41.9%, reaching $119.1 billion in FOB value, driven by agricultural products such as sugar, seeds, oilseeds (including soy), and minerals. The Association of Private Port Terminals (ATP) revealed that the transportation of sugar experienced a 43.4% increase in FOB value. These goods, crucial for the logistics sector, played a key role in boosting Brazilian port terminals. The rise in national maritime trade reflects a 1.9% increase in Brazilian exports, totaling $300.4 billion, while a 14% drop in imports occurred, influenced by maritime conflicts involving Russia, Ukraine, Israel, and Hamas. The ATP president sees this maritime trade performance as promising for Brazil’s future, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure investments in port facilities.
