AGRIBUSINESS STUDIES METRICS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CARBON MARKET

The Agricultural Parliamentary Front (FPA) urges Embrapa to expedite studies on production metrics for various agribusiness sectors to enable their participation in the regulated carbon market. Senator Tereza Cristina emphasizes the importance of agriculture in issuing bonds for sustainable production. There’s concern about excluding agriculture from the regulated carbon market, considering its significant emissions. However, some producers resist complying with emissions caps. Agriculture faces a dilemma: while hesitant about the costs of transitioning to a low-carbon economy, it’s also vulnerable to climate change impacts. The regulated carbon market is seen as crucial for renewable investments, aiding the energy transition. Incentive mechanisms are deemed necessary to accelerate decarbonization efforts.
