UNICA APPEALS FOR ETHANOL’S COMPETITIVENESS IN TAX REFORM

Evandro Gussi, president of the Union of the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry (UNICA), argued for the preservation of the gains made by Constitutional Amendment 123 in the tax reform. The National Congress approved last year the Constitutional change that distinguishes the taxation of biofuels, such as ethanol, from fossil fuels. The measurement compared the decline in competitiveness due to fuel rate adjustments made to lower the price of gasoline and diesel. According to the president of UNICA, “The competitiveness gap between gasoline and biofuels is brought into the environmental law, which is a fundamental constitutional right, and this is the tax reform’s greatest accomplishment”.
