SUGARCANE QUALITY AND PRODUCTIVITY BELOW THE PREVIOUS HARVEST

Sugarcane quality is 4% lower, whereas productivity is 1.3% lower than the last harvest, according to the Sugarcane Technology Center (CTC). ATR (Total Recoverable Sugar) is 114.2 in the current crop against 118.9 in 2021/22. Agricultural productivity dropped from 72.5 tons of cane per hectare in 2021/22 to 71.6 in the current harvest. The states of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul are the negative highlights in productivity. Sugarcane crops in Paraná were greatly affected by the frosts and the drought last year. For CTC, however, the outlook for the 2022/23 harvest is positive. The region of São José do Rio Preto in the state of São Paulo started the 2022/2023 season with high indicators, because of the above-average rainfall during spring and summer this year. The rainfall in the recent months was much higher than the past harvest. If the weather continues good, it is possible to expect a recovery and productivity can be 5% or 10% higher than the previous one.
