Sugarcane production in Brazil’s Center-South region fell by 4.85% in the 2024/25 harvest, reaching nearly 614 million tons. São Paulo saw the most significant drop, with a 7.59% decline to 353.8 million tons. In the first half of January 2025, the region crushed 399 thousand tons, a 64.1% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Sugar production also declined by 5.48%, totaling 39.8 million tons. However, ethanol production increased by 3.21%, reaching 32.8 billion liters, with a 6.74% rise in states outside São Paulo. In January’s first half, ethanol production grew by 16.35%. The average ATR (Agricultural Total Recoverable) of sugarcane was 141.28 kg/t, down 1.23% from the previous harvest, with a 64.38% drop in January compared to the same period in 2024.
