SUGARCANE HARVEST IS SET TO REACH RECORD LEVELS IN MINAS GERAIS

The Association of Sugarcane Industries of Minas Gerais (Siamig) reported that until mid-November, the sugarcane harvest reached a total of 74.8 million tons, a 13.7% increase over the same period the previous year. This year’s crop is likely to smash records, topping 75 million tons and perhaps surpassing 76 million. Sugar output climbed by 16.1% over the previous harvest, reaching 5.19 million tons. The total amount of ethanol produced increased by 11% to 3 billion liters. Sugarcane quality and productivity were also greater this year, with total ATR reaching 10.7 million tons, 13% more than the previous year. The heat wave and drought aided in hastening the crushing process.
