SUGAR CRUSHING IN BRAZIL’S NORTH/NORTHEAST REACHES 61.38 MILLION TONS

According to the Association of Sugar, Ethanol, and Bioenergy Producers (NovaBio), by the end of the first half of May, the North and Northeast region’s sugarcane crop had crushed 61.38 million tons, surpassing the amount from the previous harvest in 2021–2022. This amount was up 13.7% from the 54 million tons of sugar crushed over the same period in the previous cycle. According to Renato Cunha, CEO of NovaBio, better weather with more equally distributed rainfall was the cause of the higher output volume. Moreover, 54.20% of the crushed cane was used to make ethanol, while the remaining 45.80% was used to make sugar.
