SOYBEAN YIELDS IN BRAZIL COULD RISE BY 46%

Researchers from the Department of Soil at the University of Sao Paulo (ESALQ/USP) presented an innovative technique for assessing soil productive capacity, named “soil productive potential.” Based on soil analysis and machine learning, this approach assessed past sugarcane and soybean yields to determine where crop yields may still be improved. In 46% of Brazilian towns, soybean yields were lower than projected by the productive capacity of the land. Sugarcane yields might have been enhanced in 38% of the regions. This indicates that with proper management strategies, there is still significant untapped potential in Brazil’s soil.
