SOYBEAN HARVEST IS LATE IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL; CORN REACHES 68% OF AREAS

After periods of drought in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the soybean harvest fell short of historical averages of 14% and 10%, reaching just 1% of the cultivated area in the 2022–23 season, according to figures released by Emater –RS on Thursday. The start of the harvest allowed for more precise observation of the volume of productivity losses brought on by the drought in soybean crops. In addition, the weather continues to be unfavorable and unpredictable. “The inconsistent and poor distribution of rainfall occurred once more in the period between March 06 to March 12, highlighting the extreme variation in the productive capacity among the state’s producing regions”. In 54% of the areas, soybean plantings are primarily in the grain-filling stage. Regarding corn, the entity said that 68% of the regions in Rio Grande do Sul had been harvested, a weekly improvement of 7%.
