SANTOS-GUARUJÁ TUNNEL HAS UPDATED BID NOTICE FROM SÃO PAULO GOVERNMENT

The São Paulo State Government has republished the bidding notice for the Santos–Guarujá Immersed Tunnel, increasing its estimated cost from R$5.96 to R$6.8 billion and scheduling the auction for September 5. This 1.5 km tunnel—870 meters submerged—will be Brazil’s first of its kind, featuring three lanes each way, including one for a Light Rail Vehicle, plus pedestrian and cyclist access. The 30-year concession covers construction, operation, and maintenance. Updated after international feedback, the project includes technical adjustments to improve competitiveness, legal certainty, and financial balance. It aims to replace ferries, improve regional mobility, and generate about 9,000 jobs.
