SANTOS AND GUARUJÁ CITY HALLS PLAN TO RAISE BRL 45.3 MILLION FROM THE PORT

Santos and Guarujá governments have announced intentions to collect BRL 45.3 million in property tax from corporations leasing the Port of Santos in 2024, with some of the proceeds going to Education and Health. They oppose the AGU’s public consultation on the constitutionality of the fee in leased federal public places. In Santos, the estimated assets are BRL 34.8 million, while in Guarujá, they plan to collect more than BRL 10.5 million. The two enterprises have a combined debt of BRL 77.8 million. The Secretary of Finance of Guarujá has pointed out that tax exemption applies to the State and Union in non-concession areas, but in concession areas, the collection of IPTU is justified. Guaruja’s government intends to contribute to the public consultation and highlights the importance of the IPTU for minimum investments in Education and Health.
