RISE IN SUGAR PRODUCTION EXPECTED

Sugar production in Brazil’s Center-South is expected to total 2.4 million tons in the first half of June, an increase of 7.7% this year, according to S&P Global Commodity. Sugarcane crush ranged from 39.4 million tons to 45 million tons. The average estimate for sugarcane crush was 42.2 million tons, an increase of 15.6%. The weather in the Center-South region was good for crushing in the first half of June. “There is a wide range of estimates for sugarcane crushing in the first half of June, however there is also broad consensus with the expected production mix still targeted for ethanol production in relation to last year,” according to S&P. Global. The amount of cane used for sugar production is expected to be 44.6%, down from 46.2% last year. The total production of ethanol from sugarcane is expected to be 1,950 tons, up 13.9% from the previous year.
