ETHANOL CONSUMPTION WILL BE HIGHER THAN PETROL CONSUMPTION BY 2030

Consumption of ethanol is likely to surpass petrol consumption levels, according to StoneX’s projection. Lígia Heise, the economist and senior consultant at StoneX, highlighted the opportunities for the Brazil’s sugar-energy sector, which places the country in the leading position for this transition. “The Paris climate agreement has speeded up the energy transition in the world and we point out Brazil as a leader in this transition. The country can continue to be a leader because of its strong ethanol market, with more than 50 years of experience and full capacity to take advantage of this moment. We could export not only ethanol but also technology”, Heise said. Electric vehicles will probably coexist with ethanol vehicles in Brazil’s reality. “There is still the increase of corn ethanol, and second-generation ethanol. Brazil has many plants, especially in the Midwest. A project was recently announced in Rio Grande do Sul as well”, she pointed out. “We have been seeing the growth of gasoline and ethanol consumption since 2010 and our current projection is optimistic for ethanol production,” she added.
