RAINSTORMS CAUSE LOSSES OF BRL 275 MILLION IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL

Rainstorms in Brazil’s southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul have caused financial damages of BRL 275.5 million, according to CNM. The public sector alone suffered losses worth BRL 59.9 million, with infrastructure damages amounting to BRL 29.5 million and housing losses exceeding BRL 115.6 million. The rainstorm has impacted over 10.1 thousand houses. More than BRL 99 million is needed in the private sector to offset losses in agriculture, industry, livestock, and local commerce. The rain has hampered slaughterhouse operations and caused substantial damage to several crops. This disaster is considered the worst in the state’s history, affecting 235 towns, with 86 of them in a real emergency.
