PORTORIOS INVESTS 163 MILLION TO ACCOMMODATE LARGER SHIPS IN THE PORT OF RIO DE JANEIRO

PortosRio is currently undertaking a dredging project to raise the access channel’s height of the Port of Rio De Janeiro from 15.5 to 16.2 meters. The project has a budget of BRL 163 million and aims to not only improve transportation capacity but also prepare the port to handle larger ships in the future. The project is expected to be completed by August 2024 and will enable the port to accommodate the massive New Panamax ships. The dredging operation is being carried out by the Galileo Galilei dredge, which is responsible for moving silt to deepen the canal. Once completed, the Port of Rio de Janeiro will become one of the principal ports in Brazil and the world. The project improves the port’s infrastructure and benefits the local economy.
