PORT OF PARANAGUÁ’S EAST CORRIDOR ACHIEVES RECORD-BREAKING SOYBEAN EXPORTS IN MAY 2023

Soybean exports, including grains and meals, reached a record-breaking volume of 2,567,755 tonnes in May 2023 through the East Corridor of the Port of Paranaguá (Corex). This achievement marks the highest monthly volume since the corridor’s establishment in 1973, surpassing the previous record of 2,474,705 tonnes shipped in April 2020. Luiz Fernando Garcia, the director-president of Portos do Paraná, expressed his satisfaction with the results. Initially, the terminals anticipated loading around 2 million tonnes during the first quarter but exceeded expectations by almost 568 thousand tonnes. Notable improvements were observed in the corridor’s performance, and the average berthing time decreased from 2.81 days in May 2022 to 2.31 days in May 2023. Concurrently, the average shipment productivity increased from 850.41 tonnes/hour to 1,155.83 tonnes/hour.
