PORT OF IMBITUBA MARKS 11% SURGE OVER PAST SEPTEMBER THROUGHPUT NUMBERS

The Port of Imbituba wrapped up September by handling a total of 625,556 tonnes, reflecting an impressive 11% surge compared to the same period a year ago. Out of the 28 vessels that berthed at the port throughout the month, those transporting solid bulk cargo took the spotlight, accounting for 87% of the September cargo volume. Petroleum coke ranked first among the most handled goods during this period, followed by corn and soy meal, salt, and soybeans. Of the total volume handled, 47.22% was for exports, amounting to 295,437 tonnes. Imports comprised 38.4% of the cargo, followed by 14.36% in coastal shipping. “With over 5.7 million tonnes handled so far, we expect to end the year with yet another historic record in cargo handling,” assessed Luís Antonio Braga Martins, CEO of the port.
