PARANA RAISES SECOND CORN CROP FORECAST

With favorable weather and historical planting area, the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) said on Thursday (28) that the second 2021/22 Parana’s corn crop is expected to hit a record with 16 million tons. Last month, Deral pointed to 15.9 million tons. “The weather has been favorable in basically every season. We expect overproduction as well as inventory replenishment”, said Edmar Gervásio, analyst at Deral. If this volume is confirmed, the second crop corn output in Parana would almost triple in comparison with the previous cycle, when crops were hit by drought and frost and reached 5.7 million tons. Farmers have expanded the sown area motivated by attractive prices. According to Deral, the cultivated area is expected to grow 7% compared to the previous cycle, to 2.7 million hectares in the second harvest, which also sets a record.
