ORPLANA ESTIMATES THAT THE SUGAR CANE HARVEST WILL CLOSE AT 650 MILLION TONS

Orplana forecasts a record-breaking sugarcane crushing of 650 million tons in the 2023/24 season in Brazil’s Center-South, based on optimal crop yields, climate conditions, and sector investments. The current harvest, extending beyond the usual November end, is considered a record. However, the 18% increase over the previous year is not expected to repeat in 2024/25, with an estimated 620 million tons. The forecast of 20 to 25 million tons of bisada sugarcane may not materialize due to accelerated grinding, and recent rains may further impact the sugarcane fields for the next harvest, warns Orplana’s CEO, José Guilherme Nogueira.
