MAIZE HARVEST ADVANCES 3.7% IN BRAZIL, WITH FOCUS ON SOUTHERN STATES

The harvest of the 2023/24 summer maize crop in Brazil reached 3.7% of the estimated area of 3.972 million hectares as of last Friday (12), according to data collected by SAFRAS & Mercado. The southern states are leading the advance, with 10% of the area already harvested in Rio Grande do Sul, 4.3% in Santa Catarina, and 0.2% in Paraná. In other states, such as Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, Goiás/Federal District, Minas Gerais, and Mato Grosso, harvesting activities have not yet begun. The current progress is superior to that recorded in the same period of the previous year, when the harvest reached only 1.5% of the area. The average harvest for the past five years for this specific period is 2.9%.
