GRAIN EXPORTS REACH 47 MILLION TONNES IN Q1, DRIVEN BY SOYBEANS AND EMERGING MARKETS

In Q1 2025, Brazilian private port terminals handled 47 million tonnes of grain, a 1.4% drop from the previous year, mainly due to droughts disrupting inland river navigation—particularly affecting the Northern Region, which saw a 13.7% decline. However, ocean exports rose 3.4%, led by soybean shipments (up 4.5%) and strong demand from China, Iran (+63.5%), and Egypt (+62.3%), showing diversification in export markets. Agriculture drove Brazil’s 1.4% GDP growth in the quarter, with a 12.2% increase in the sector. Bahia’s Cotegipe Terminal and Rondônia’s Portochuelo Terminal led private port growth, with increases of 50.5% and 15.8%, respectively. Despite logistical challenges, the sector demonstrated resilience and adaptability.
