The global sugar market is expected to shift to a surplus in the 2025/26 season, with production rising by 4.5% to 202 million tonnes, according to Green Pool. This surplus of 2.7 million tonnes contrasts with the previous season’s 3.7 million-tonne deficit. Key production increases are expected in Brazil, India, and Thailand. Brazil’s Center-South region will see sugar output rise to 41.6 million tonnes, as the proportion of cane used for sugar increases from 48% to 50.9%. Meanwhile, global sugar consumption is projected to grow by 1.2% to 198.3 million tonnes, maintaining the previous season’s growth rate.
