FERTILIZER IMPORTS RISE 8.4% IN THE FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF 2026, BUT SPENDING JUMPS 22.2% AMID BROAD PRICE INCREASES

Brazil imported approximately 11.4 million tons of fertilizers between January and April 2026, a volume 8.4% higher than in the same period of 2025. Total spending, however, increased by 22.2%, reflecting rising prices in the global fertilizer market due to geopolitical tensions around the world. On average during the first four months of the year, Ammonium Nitrate led the price increases, with CFR prices up 40.7% compared to the same period in 2025, followed by Urea, up 25.7%, Potassium Chloride, up 21.5%, and MAP, up 10.8%. Since the close of December, the upward movement has become even more intense: Urea has accumulated a 44.5% increase, Ammonium Nitrate 37.9%, and MAP 16.2%, while Potassium Chloride posted a more moderate rise of 2.5%. Compared with the January-to-April period of 2025, the Brazilian market in 2026 responded to the price increases by substituting inputs.
