BRAZIL’S CORN CROP WILL SOON SURPASS SOYBEANS, SAYS ABRAMILHO PRESIDENT

Brazil’s corn crop, driven by a rapidly growing corn ethanol industry, is on track to surpass soybeans as the most produced grain in the South American country, said Paulo Bertolini, president of industry group Abramilho. Conab estimated in April that total soybean production in the 2025/26 crop season would reach 179.2 million tons, while total corn production, divided into three harvests, was forecast at 139.6 million tons. Some states, such as Mato Grosso, have already seen corn surpass soybeans in terms of production, while Paraná, the country’s second-largest grain producer, is only two or three years away from seeing corn become its largest crop, Bertolini said. In some regions, corn is shifting to the first crop of the year — traditionally used for soybean production — due to the increase in corn ethanol production, Bertolini added.
