FERTILIZER DELIVERIES GROW 1.6% IN THE FOUR-MONTH PERIOD.

Brazil’s fertilizer deliveries reached 12.30 million tonnes in the January to April period, up 1.6% year on year, although April volumes fell 6% to 2.54 million tonnes. Mato Grosso remained the largest consuming state, accounting for 3.06 million tonnes, or 24.9% of total deliveries. Domestic production dropped 14.4% to 1.92 million tonnes as higher sulfur costs weighed on phosphate fertilizer output. Fertilizer imports totaled 11.21 million tonnes, down 0.4% from a year earlier, while cargo handled through the Port of Paranaguá, the country’s main fertilizer gateway, declined 6.5% to 2.84 million tonnes.
