ETHANOL PLANTS ARE LIKELY TO BOOST CORN CONSUMPTION IN MATO GROSSO

With the new corn-ethanol plant and the possibility of a reduced global supply for the upcoming crop, the total consumption of corn in the state of Mato Grosso may rise by 6.09% in 2023, 6.48% in exports, and 7.07% in state consumption. In its fourth supply and demand assessment, the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (IMEA) forecasts a supply of 46.65 million tons of corn for the harvest of 2022–2023, up 1.91% from the previous report, as a result of the revision to the output estimate for November. The expected demand for corn in Mato Grosso was 46.27 million tons, up 6.09% from the last forecast, and up 1.62% from the estimates for the 2021/22 cycle.
