DATAGRO RAISES CANE CRUSHING FORECAST IN BRAZIL’S CENTER-SOUTH

Brazil’s Center-South is expected to harvest 606.5 million tons of sugarcane in 2023–2024, an increase of 10.6% over the previous cycle, according to the consultancy Datagro on Thursday 29. Sugar production could set a new record. The prior projection was for a harvest of 598.5 million tons in Brazil’s primary sugarcane-producing area. The cane fields have recently seen unusually excellent weather, according to Datagro, and they should be harvested in the later stages of the 2023–2024 harvest. A 15.9% rise from the previous cycle, the Center-South is predicted to produce 39.1 million tons of sugar in 2023–2024, breaking the previous record of 38.47 million tons established in 2020–21.
