Mato Grosso producers had sold 47.32% of expected 2025/26 corn output by end May, up 1.02 percentage points year on year, according to Imea. Harvest progress and increased grain availability accelerated commercial activity, while higher supply pressured spot prices to R$42.73 per sack. Forward sales for the 2026/27 crop reached 4.77% of projected production, up 2.08 percentage points from April but still below last year’s pace as concerns over a potential strong El Niño weigh on planting prospects and risk management decisions. New crop corn traded at R$45.39 per sack, largely unchanged month on month. On the export front, Mato Grosso shipped 121,030 tonnes in May, accounting for 48.55% of Brazil’s corn exports and marking a 207.36% increase from the previous period. Exports in the 2024/25 cycle have reached 24.03 million tonnes, already exceeding the prior season’s total by 1.68%.
