BRAZIL’S PORTO SUDESTE BREAKS IRON ORE HANDLING RECORD

Brazil’s Porto Sudeste broke its iron ore handling record in 2023, exceeding 26 million tons, surpassing the anticipated 20 million. The achievement involved unloading over 1,840 trains and docking 155 ships. Investments in port improvements, including a new draught approved by the Brazilian Navy in April, contributed to the success. The increased draught from 17.80 to 18.30 meters allows for ships to carry up to 30,000 more tons. This enhancement in load capacity, along with improved safety and efficiency, reflects steady progress, solidifying Porto Sudeste’s role as a logistical solution in the country. The achievement is attributed to a dedicated team and sustainable growth initiatives.
