BRAZIL’S PORT OF AÇU HANDLES FIRST-EVER CARGO OF SALT

The Port of Açu concluded the first-ever cargo handling operation with salt at its Multicargo Terminal (T-MULT), announced the director of terminals and logistics, João Braz, on March 1st, at Intermodal South America 2023. The operation, whose client was “Refinaria Nacional de Sal,” producer of the famous Cisne brand, is the first of its kind at the port and is considered an operational milestone for T-MULT. Two vessels were required to transport the cargo, approximately 70 thousand tonnes of coarse salt, throughout 2023. The cargo originated in the state of Rio Grande do Norte and followed along the coast to the Port of Açu, in São João da Barra, in the north of Rio de Janeiro state. “Refinaria Nacional de Sal” has been present at the Brazilian dinner table for over 70 years, in addition to selling products directly to the industry. It uses cabotage shipping to transport products from the Northeast to the factory installed in Cabo Frio, where it supplies the entire domestic and foreign markets.
