BRAZIL’S GOVERNMENT TO PRIVATIZE THE PORT OF SANTOS IN 2022

The Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio, confirmed on Thursday (26/05) the government’s plans for privatizing the Port of Santos (SP), as well as the 7th round of airport auctions in 2022, despite the electoral calendar. The publication of the public bidding for the Port of Santos is forecast for the fourth quarter of the year and the auction is expected to take place later this year. Sampaio stated that the 7th round of airports auctions, which includes the terminals of Congonhas (SP), Campo Grande (MS), Santarém (PA), Marabá (PA), Altamira (PA), Uberlândia (MG), and Montes Claros (MG) is expected to occur in August. The minister said last week that the government expects approval from the Federal Audit Court for the seventh round by the end of this month or in the first half of June. Sampaio stated that the investments for the country’s infrastructure require private capital. “This is a demand from society”, he said.
