Brazil’s Energy Ministry will submit a proposal to raise the anhydrous ethanol blend in gasoline from 30% to as much as 32%, with a decision expected within 15 days. Authorities estimate the move would reduce gasoline imports by 450 million liters, supporting energy security and lowering fuel costs. Industry representatives said ethanol currently trades about R$2.40 per liter below gasoline, suggesting a higher blend could further ease consumer prices. The proposal follows technical studies indicating E32 is viable, while future increases could reach E35. Biofuel producers expect domestic ethanol output to expand by more than 4 billion liters this year, providing supply for the higher mandate. The measure is part of Brazil’s Fuel of the Future program, aimed at reducing transport emissions and increasing the share of renewable fuels in the energy matrix.
