BRAZIL WATERWAY TRANSPORT SECTOR STOOD AT 1.3 BILLION TONNES IN 2023

Brazil’s waterway transport soared in 2023, moving a record 1.3 billion tons of goods (up 6.9%). Inland navigation led the surge (10.5%), followed by long-distance (8.3%) and coastal shipping (1.6%). Soybeans topped the cargo list (29% increase), followed by corn (18%) and crude oil (9.4%). Ports like Santos and Paranaguá flourished, while the Northern Arc emerged as a key export hub for soybeans and corn, surpassing southern regions.
