BRAZIL TO ANNOUNCE SANTOS-GUARUJÁ UNDERWATER TUNNEL IN DECEMBER

The Brazilian federal and state governments of São Paulo will announce in early December the construction of the Santos-Guarujá underwater tunnel, which will connect the two municipalities through a 5.5-kilometer underground passage. The total cost of the project is estimated at R$6 billion, with R$3 billion from the federal government and R$3 billion from the state government. The tunnel is scheduled to begin construction in 2024 and be completed in 2025. The project will include the construction of access roads on both sides of the tunnel and urban revitalization of the region. The Santos-Guarujá tunnel is a project that has been discussed for many years but never materialized. The announcement of its construction start is considered an important step forward for the development of the region.
