BRAZIL TO ACHIEVE SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN WHEAT PRODUCTION

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) Marcos Montes took part in the 29th International Congress of the Wheat Industry closing ceremony in Foz do Iguaçu (PR). At the event, Montes pointed out wheat production increases in Brazil resulting from investments in research and innovation, especially Embrapa. He said that the national average is the production of 2.8 tons per hectare and some producers have already reached 9 tons per hectare. “We found the way to produce wheat. It will lead us to self-sufficiency and export increases,” said the minister. Brazil is expected to be self-sufficient in ten years.
