BRAZIL: THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR SAW THE LOWEST LEVEL OF WHEAT IMPORTS SINCE 1997

Safras forecasts a cycle of 12.55 million tons for the 23/24 crop; Brazil is ranked 8th among the top importers of wheat. Brazilian wheat imports decreased overall in 2023. The expected volume of wheat between January and June is 2.152 million tons, down 32.64% from the same time last year. This is the lowest volume of imports from Brazil since 1997, according to the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex). Brazil produced 11.285 million tons of wheat in 2022, which is the most wheat it has ever grown. Safra forecasts a cycle of 12.55 million tons for the crop in 2023–2024.
