BRAZIL: SUGAR EXPORTS REACH 2.55 MILLION TONS IN AUGUST

Brazil has registered once again a record price for sugar exports. In August, sugar averaged USD 339.47 per ton – the highest price since February 2018. About 2.55 million tons of the sweetener was exported in August, down 18.7% from the same month in 2020. On the other hand, the higher price caused an increase of 0.2% in revenue, totaling USD 865.49 million. Of this volume, 2.25 million tons were of the gross product (-17.6%), traded at USD 333.97/t (+25.7%). Refined sugar totaled 298.21 thousand tons (-26.4%) and was sold at USD 381.06/t (+11.5%). Despite the retraction in August, the volume exported in 2021 is still high. In the year-to-date period, about 17.8 million tons were shipped, up 1.6% from the same period in 2020. In addition, the average price in 2021 increased 16.3% (USD 327.74/t). In this way, the revenue had an increase of 18.2% (USD 5.84 million).
