BRAZIL: SUGAR EXPORTS ARE UNLIKELY TO GROW AT THE SAME RATE AS OUTPUT

According to Datagro, sugar exports from Brazil are unlikely to increase at the same rate as output in 2023–2024 due to logistical problems that may limit shipments of corn, soy, and soymeal. Ricardo de Aguiar, a trader at Razen, estimates that south-central Brazil’s sugar production will increase by 3.6 million tons to 37.3 million tons in 2023–2024, while exports are expected to rise by 1.4 million tons to 26.9 million tons. The highest monthly sugar export capacity in Santos is 2.7 million tons. According to Gabriela Bosquetti, a business analyst at Usina Aroeira, the highest operating capacity is necessary to export the entire harvest from April to December.
