BRAZIL SHOULD INCREASE CORN PRODUCTION IN THE 2024/25 HARVEST, ESTIMATES USDA

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) projects a 5.7% increase in Brazil’s corn harvest for the 2024/25 cycle, estimating production at 129 million tons. This growth follows a challenging 2023/24 season marked by the impact of El Niño on productivity. Favorable weather conditions are anticipated, prompting renewed interest from producers despite narrow profit margins. The forecasted decrease in the sown area to 22 million hectares, down from 22.5 million hectares in the previous cycle, is attributed to El Niño’s adverse effects. Despite setbacks, Brazil remains a significant consumer and producer of corn, crucial for its feed and ethanol industries.
