BRAZIL: COPERVALES HIT SUGARCANE PRODUCTION RECORD IN THE 2021/22 SEASON

Despite the adverse economic scenario and the high prices, sugarcane producers in the Brazilian state of Alagoas hit records this season operating in Vale do Satuba, Vale do Paraíba and Vale do Mundaú. The Agricultural Cooperative of Vale do Satuba (Copervales) surpassed the mark of 862 thousand tons of crushed sugarcane in the 2021/22 season, a historical record in the region. By the end of the cycle, the cooperatives are expected to surpass the mark of 870 thousand tons of crushed cane. Copervales is a cooperative founded by sugarcane suppliers in 2014 to face the crisis that led to closure of many industrial units in Alagoas. In its first year of operation, it produced around 469,000 tons of sugarcane. The sugarcane processed at Copervales is transformed into VHP sugar to be exported to Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America; and in crystal sugar, syrup and bagasse to be sold on the domestic market.
